English as a Second Language

Conversations in English

We realize it is not an easy thing to leave your homeland, move to the United States, and embark on learning a new way of life as well as a new language. For this reason, we welcome adult students to join us in learning conversational English in a fun and relaxed way.

Three levels of classes are offered: beginner, intermediate, and advanced, as well as a Citizenship preparation class. Classes meet each Thursday from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Education Building, first floor. Classes are free, but there is a $20 fee for materials (student book). Adult students, age 18 and older, may join at any time during the year, September to May. And because they are too young to attend classes, free childcare is provided for children under the age of 18.

We also offer one 8-week ESL class in the summer (June, July): “Cookies and Conversation”. This conversation class meets on Wednesday nights 6:00-7:15pm, also in the Ed Bldg 1st Floor. All of our teachers are certified volunteers from FBCMel. Several have a background of public school teaching, and each has a love for people of the nations. It is our pleasure to meet each week with students from many different countries. Our goal is to model and communicate the love of Christ as we teach conversational English and develop relationships that are culturally diverse.

That which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:3
